  1. Yes I can appreciate how difficult this would be. How do you help them to learn how to do this task?In Australia most of our students in car mechanics are in Vocational Colleges or in schools. Many of the students are also apprentices. I would be very interested to know ho you go about teaching them the theory behind all these activities.

  2. We´ve got a very good repair manual in Volvos VIDA where they explain the way of the power in a rather educational way. We´re using YouTube where you can find film clips. We`re using a interactive teaching material called ARGO from a Belgian company called Electude. And this striped gearbox that they can study "live". And if this doesn't do the trick we tutor them ourselves. You can check out the program at www.electude.com if you like. There is a English version.

  4. Dear Lasse, thanks for the utube clip. this must be very helpful and I am sure the students enjoy it.It also teaches them about technology and this is always good. Being a mechanic today also means that you have to have a lot of IT skills. Do you find this?

    1. Yes, it is crucial to be a rather skilled IT user. The profession we teach is becoming more and more interactive . Soon we can't even open the hood ourselves.

  5. I have to say I used to be able to look at an engine and identify various components. Now I don think I even know where the switch is to open the hood or bonnet.

    1. Yes, the development over the last decades are unbelievable. It's very hard to keep up. Ford has succeeded very well in hiding the hood switch. :)
